KIWI CUVEE refused registration in Australia.

The application by a French wine producer, Lacheteau, was refused because of its geographical association with New Zealand.

 

KIWI CUVEE refused registration in Australia. 

The New Zealand Winegrowers association opposed the application on the basis that the trade mark wrongly gave the impression that the wine was from New Zealand and the Australian authorities agreed. It is interesting to see a French company receiving a decision on a case comparable to the French authorities own stance in vigorously protecting all indications of French origin, most notably the right to use the term CHAMPAGNE by wine producers.
